Picked this little fella off the road yesterday. Had been hit by a car but seemed not bad. Couldnt fly but was very noisy so that was a good sign. Have him in a box and im guessing meal worms would be ok to feed him.......any other suggestions ?

Not maggots...

Feed a mix of tinned dog food, mealworm and baked beans in a syringe if you can do. Looks like he'll be ok in a day or two as he's plenty big enough. Probably concussed...

I bow to your superior knowledge, but why not maggots? Just curious as I have seen many different birds feeding on maggots off corpses.

It's only MO, but I believe the birds can get Botolism and other assorted nasties. Obviously a young birds stomach 'workings' is only a couple of weeks old and might not have the capability to deal with potentially toxic things. I also think that there is a far greater chance of this with shop bought maggots as they are often fed diseased fowl carcases, which is where such ailments could originate, esp salmonella. And, besides, a mealworm is about the same price, packed with protein and can be much easier to handle in the fingers. I could be wrong, but that's my beliefs, and it's based on hand rearing/rehabilitating many species from wren size upwards....... :victory:
