jhiggins 48
I havnt been doing a lot with my 2 year old bitch for a couple of months - only a bit of ratting. Took her out tonight when I went rabbit shooting so that she could do some retrieves. I spent a lot of time when she was younger on her retrieves and she hd always been very reliable. Tonight however, she was crap. All she was interesting in was killing the rabbit, dragging it along for a bit then leaving it. She would not even attempt to bring it to me. Just wondering what the best approach would be to getting back to retrieving properly? She will bring a tennis ball back faultlessly but just not a rabbit! Any help would be great. Quote Link to post
trigger2 3,630
i would give her another couple of trips out first before you get concerned. if tonight was her first time out retrieving rabbits for a while it might just be that she is still in ratting mode you could take her out tomorrow and she could be fine. some dogs take some time to adjust from one quarry to another others just do it no bother. 1 Quote Link to post
