Metal detector arrived and powering up tonight for the big search tomorrow.4 traps down and not to theft from what I can ascertain, just my senile old memory and failure to develop a method of recording where I put them.

I have a plan however and will put it into play tomorrow when I put the second batch out.

Google Earth zoom in to the intended fields and print a screen grab off, carry it with me and mark every location as they go in, other thing is no more than 15 in the bag at anytime as 15 seems to be the number which triggers brain default setting in me and I end up with a pissed off blank expression wondering what the hell I'm doing or even where I am lol.

Print the fields off and number the traps placed and date them seems the sensible approach for now.

Doesn't help when the locals keep tooting from their tractors and quads as you are trying to keep a mental note of the situation.

What metal detector you got Bryn? i use the Garrett, finds my lost stuff

I wish there was an easy way to remember where traps were left!! I do lose quite a few each year, but my charges do cover the loses

Not sure about the map either, it will get dirty, maybe wet, lose the pencil and you`ll be back to square 1

Happy Hunting

maps worked fine today and regards it being wet I'll laminate them first and use a waterproof pen to mark the sites.Just nice to sit in the comfort of your own home and look at your days work regards the topography and where your traps are.

Thats a good Idea for spots where you cant put marker flags out for fear of getting your traps nicked. Even if its just on the back of a fag packet with a few x marks the spot.

As long as you have your own system of secretly marking each trap position jobs a goodun.
