Combined Canine Clubs Raceday and Dog Match Saturday 14^th March 2015 at Laurencetown

 

After a short journey from home, with dogs in tow, and taking in a good hot breakfast along the way, we arrived at Laurencetown, the venue for the Combined Clubs Raceday and Dog Match Saturday 14^th March 2015 .

 

Although the weather was kind to us, there was a bitter cold chill in the air. But that did not dampen the spirits of the good Canine folk, who travelled from North and South of the border in their large numbers. Saturdays crowd went beyond all expectations. Cars, Vans, Trailers and Families arrived in their droves, and very soon all car parking space was filled too capacity.

 

 

This was a brilliant turnout for the first show of the year. Even the King of the Castle himself, Mr Aj Titterington and his good wife Irene were in attendance. After speaking to both , it was very evident they were definitely enjoying their day out in Laurencetown. This was a busmans holiday for them, away from their very busy schedule organising Shanes Castle, Saturday and Sunday 27^th and 28^th June 15.

 

It was nice to meet up with old friends after the long cold winter, and also meet up with some new people. There was a lovely contingent of people came up from Carlow, and despite the early rise and long drive, these guys and girls were out for a great days craic, and that they certainly got in Laurencetown.

 

Very soon entries were taken, and the racing started at approx. 1.30pm.

And Finally, may I take this opportunity to thank everybody for the big turnout at Saturdays show, and those who helped in any way. I can honestly say it’s a long time since I saw so much comardrie at a show, peaceful and friendly, everything run smoothly, and not a wrong word pointed in any direction.

 

A special word of thanks to Tracy Gill who organised the Dog Match on a very cold afternoon, and judge Kirsty Harpur who done a wonderful job in the ring. The lure was operated by Graham Fyffe and assisted by Maurice Thomas Mc Dowell. Lure and Racing went without a hitch. And the last two links in the chain of power was Mickey Quinn who took charge of the starting line, and Janet Duke as line steward at the finishing line. Many thanks to all involved.

 

And Finally, Finally may I take this opportunity to thank the Combined Canine Clubs organisers Tom Barry, his lovely wife Leanne and Dessie Mackin for a great day of sportsmanship on Saturday. The craic was good, and the show top class. Hopefully we will have many more days like this in the months ahead.
