Alright lads.

seems like everyday I have to replace at least one side of my band set after a tear, usually at the pouch end. Is this common with flats or am I doing something wrong?

im tying them on with a small strip of tbg using the 3 and 2 string method.

bands are 20mm thick using a brand new rotary cutter

Make sure no zips on your coat are abrading the rubber. Also never cut your bands from the side of the role. Always take the edge off each side of the length of theraband before cutting the bands.

Great tip but so far I havent worn a zipped coat while shooting and I take the edges off. Ill remeber the zip tip, thanks

I use wrap and tuck - the first wrap around is loose which insulates the flats, then tighter until I tuck them. Most problems are when it's wrapped too tight and cuts into the bands.

Sounds as if I am wrapping to tight although I try to start loose as you say, thanks

As with all things practise makes perfect

I'm no expert - some use constrictor knot which I like too, but I find a loose wrap then a few tight ones holds well and the initial loose wrap protects the bands a bit. I sometimes find using lighter bands to wrap is handy too (like ASDA yellow or thera silver).
