salclalin 240
I see that a lot of you lads run Deer regular, but are the dogs steady with livestock or do they know the difference. I've often thought about that. Quote Link to post
lucky 578
i have one now thats as keen for sheep as it is deer, but its the only dog i've ever had that will kill sheep and i got him as an adult so it's probably through bad training with the previous owner why he's like he his, my other dogs take deer just as regular and won't bother sheep or any livestock at all Quote Link to post
Guest Doug
I've had many years of deer work and never any problems with livestock. Don't do deer now but still never any problems with livestock. It all comes down to training. Quote Link to post
brock 11
same here, dogs do deer but dont worry livestock,i walk 5 dogs through sheep most days (of the lead),2 of them deer dogs,2 are 7 months old,and the other is a russell, youn must have confidence in your dogs with livestock. Kane 2
Doing a few deer with a dog can cause problems when it comes to working around stock.Very little stock where I live now and I do have to watch my dogs around livestock.I used to live in an area where stock was more common and my dogs were rock steady.Just have to do the thinking for the dog Ime afraid if I moved back to a sheep farming or even cattle area (which I wont)I would have a stressfull couple of weeks breaking my dogs. All dogs are 100% with stock until they kill some :11: Quote Link to post
Guest thunderbelly
Do your dogs catch the deer for you? Quote Link to post
