Out In The Snow

Recommended Posts

Day after boxing day had a ride through to see my mate kev he was laid on the couch in his dressing gown nursing a hang over

He had been out with a local pack boxing day and then gone on the piss afterwards.

I had gone on my own hunt boxing day with my lurcher looking to exercise a freddy stare or two but to be fair only saw one and then it wasnt a great deal to right home about and as it dived in a wood and run up the fence line the dog followed it up from my side

To top it off I fell down a big hole and jard me back on the way back to the motor.

So at kevs I was itching to get out the snow had fecked the lamping so a day with the terrier and hounds was arranged for yesterday.

Got up grabbed me lurcher then woke up the house when it ran inside and then the doors on the motor was frozen shut

fecked my wipers when I pulled them off my motor to clean the windows ffs was well stressed then going down the hill set off skating and thought I was going to crash into a range rover this morning wasnt going to plan at all.

At kevs was pleased to see niges disco outside he is the third member of the three amigos good crimbo nigey lad no fecking shit cooker packed up crimbo morning I suddenly didnt feel that bad lol looking forward to a walk out mate not coming mate just want to check this set and then thats me.

At the set nothing doing to niges dismay this was on his land were he keeps his birds so me and kev left him and went on for our walk.

The first spot was pritty built up but with some small cover patches I was sent down the bottom to wait with the lurchers and as kev appeard we set off to do a small passage with cover either side the hounds cracked up into song and we was now moving down fallowing this chap he was pushed home and marked but we decided that it was just too busy around with walkers and the thing being twenty foot off the path in clear view decided to go elswere.

A ten min drive later we landed at our next spot a old railway siding this was much better the last place was like the m1 and all the dogs was let off to mooch round the dogs was my useless lurcher BO BO kevs two hounds a terrier and his bull cross he has had from a pup.

This was much better we was relaxed dogs working well I was sent to wait at a spot again with the lurchers and kev took the hounds in a small wood he had seen a few of santas sled pullers before and thought they may break for me but no nothing doing.

We carried on the embankment and was really enjoying it I thought I heard movement and kev got the hounds back and went to the top so he could see, getting the hounds into a good bit of cover they didnt need prompting and shot in kevs bull x and the terrier too the hounds cracked strait up now the way it was sounding they was right on top of him man this sport gives me a real buzz.

They pushed him down the embankment and back across the road to the other side were we had just come from ffs so we ran back to the road and could hear them taking it across the fields

We got into the fields and stood listening but nothing after a short while kev blew his whistle and not long after the hounds was spotted returning however the terrier was not with them.

Now the little black dog belongs to nige but is used by any of us she has her faults but we know her inside out and instead of parting with her he gave her to kev to use she is worth her weight in gold she has a real nose and will find anywere.

It was real strange she never returned and kev knowing the area stated there was only one set near by so we went to check as we got there no sign and headed of back off in the other direction.

No sign there either but we pushed on the hounds was singing again and out of the corner of my eye a flash of red and white I made kev aware but the hounds was on another line I stayed and he went to follow them

It fell silent were I was and fantastic was spotted not long after creeping out the cover at the top of a rock pile up a steep banking cheeky tw@t glanced back and looked striat at me then made his escape over the sky line.

I made my way over to kev and he was stood with his black and white hound and the welsh x was in a wood below short while later and a few whistles he was returning and we headed off back to see if we could find scruffy.

On the way back we both said that was a busy little spot and how we had enjoyed it we both was a bit worried over the terrier but as we made our way back we got her and was relieved the sun was now setting and a great day was had the dogs worked hard and was very tired a mixed grill and a few bevies followed great craic.
