Reading this Article in Sporting Shooter

It says that using rain water that has run of a shed roof or anytype of roof, is full of diseases and these diseases can be passed onto game birds and kill them so what im getting at is if it can kill game birds could it kill ferrets?

i highly doubt it could be contaminated enough to kill game birds unless there is alot of bird crap on the roof.........

Are you saying you usually give your ferrets rain water to drink?

The reason you should'nt use run off water is because the birds will shit all over the roof,then contaminate the collected water,any disease or parasite one bird has will then be passed on to all the rest,clean rain water will do no harm to birds or ferrets but its easily contaminated from all sorts of sources so best to use tap water or from a container that cant be contaminated

No i give them fresh tap water i was just reading and wonderd if it would effect the ferret

Funny you brang this up

 

On my Chicken shed i always had a waterbutt to collect the water of the roof of the shed to use as drinking water for the birds ben doing that for years and all 30 of the birds are fine.

Living on farms half my life, the only way we get drinking water is run-off into rainwater tanks. If its ok for me it'd be ok for my pets. Although if you have lots of pigeons or the like constanly shitting on your roof I'd add some lime or something to the water. Used to add lime to the windmill tanks if an animal had died in there.
