Missie 1
I found a dog wandering recently, knocked on the doors in the surrounding area and no one knew who he belonged to, I took him to the police station and because I didn't like the thought of him being in thier kennels I said i'd keep hold of him while I tried to find his owner. He had no collar or markings and no chip. I contacted all the normal authorities and said I would keep the dog for a few days before handing him over to rescue. I was told that the dog is not allowed to be moved on for 30 days if it has been found straying. Luckily the owner contacted the police and dog warden and I returned him to a very grateful lady that day but had he not found his home he would've had to stay with me or the kennels for 30 days before he could legally be rehomed. I am a member on that forum due to the rescues I help out but if you want me to PM the person concerned I can see if I can get any joy if you like? Edited to add, will do. Hope its of some help. Guest Ditch_Shitter
Removing the collar from a " Found " Dog is a standard PETA ploy, mate. In the states it means they can't be done for property theft. It also saves them ever having to answer tricky questions, such as, 'The damn thing had an ID tag on it, so why didn't ye just call that number?!' Might there be a fair to middling chance that that site works on the basis of 'Rescuing' working Dogs and then passing them on to known 'Non Working' homes? Decades back, I knew a house that had LACS stickers all over the front door. Then, one time, I found myself working on an adjoining properties roof and was able to look down into the LACS strongholds back garden ~ it was Heaving with Lurkers ..... Missie 1
The majority of the members on the site are anti hunting and do have a lot do do with rescue. I am a member so that I can keep up to date with rescue needs etc. The story I am being told is that the dog was reunited with its owner. As I said, the law prevents rehoming of a dog within a certain time once its been reported to the authorities. However I know that this is sometimes not adhered to. I'm hoping the woman in question is being straight with me but I have sent her another PM at SHOT's request so that he can be sure its not his dog.
Guest SHOT
well ive heard nothing from this lass and i still cant get on the site to talk to them ,admin havent replied to email. police say nobody reported lurcher found in the last 7 days as do the two leicester radio stations they claim to have contacted.. police also say sorry we cant do anything. this is the reply missie received.. Hi missie , Of course I don't mind you contacting me. I too would be devastated if my dog had gone missing and would be trying every available option. My heart goes out to him. Millie was reunited with a lady who was looking after her on behalf of her son. We wouldn't have been able to rehome her so quickly after finding her because of the law. Jill, who had found Millie, said as soon as she walked in with Millie she ran over to this lady and settled down next to her as if to say she was home. We are convinced it was this ladies sons lurcher. Sorry I couldn't help. What is the story with this gentlemans lurcher, which area was she lost etc? I'll keep my eyes and ears open (I too have a black lurcher and always keep my eyes open for wandering greys and lurchers.) Thanks, just to add the dogs not a house pet/companion to me and is very limited in the feild with bad feet etc if somebody genuine had found the dog and took a shine to it id have more than likely let them keep it. i know that will rub some of you up the wrong way but im being straight, its the idea that some dog dealers seen a found add turned up claimed it as theres etc. the fact that they lied about reporting it to police etc it smells.. Missie 1
In that case is it any good if you report it to the police yourself? I've had no reply to the last PM I sent asking her to call you but will let you know as soon as I do. I really hope the woman is genuinely telling the truth as it bypasses every reason I help rescues if she isn't. I don't do this to separate genuine owners from their dogs, I do it to help dogs in need.
Guest SHOT
ive explained the whole thing to the police they say they cant do anything i have no address contact details to view the dog nothing.. its why i rang the radio stations the only dog thats been reported found in the last 7 days with them was a white russel type..i was hoping to get contact details from them. it could well be a different dog i find that unlikely.i,ll know more when this person gets in touch cheers. edited spelling.
