earth-thrower 494
Was always interested in trying the old 'fenn loop mole trap',but theyve been out of production, decades ago.So i discovered someone had produced traps, similar in design,in recent years.Eventually got a hold of a couple, after a degree of difficulty. (scarce to get) Tried one out,and got a miss, first time. LOL Tried again , changed the style,of setting, bingo, a capture. When i went to check it,the trap (with mole in it) was lying on the surface, less than a foot from the hole,i set it. A fox, i thought at first, had pulled it out,.......no, more like a two legged fox ! Convinced myself it was someone from a nearby dwelling, maybe had watched me.Found the catching loops up,and pulled it up,for a nosey.Anyway set a second one,in a garden job.went too check it,and got a surprise, again. Found trap with mole, next to the hole ! LOL So in conclusion the springs, are obviously not quite strong enough, and the unfortunate mole was able to drag itself (and trap) out. 1 Quote Link to post
earth-thrower 494
The traps surprisingly light,as well. Its also difficult to pack soil round it,to secure it better. Thanks also to a couple of lads off here,....(you know who you are, lol) who tried to help me locate, some of these traps.Couldnt really recommend this 'copy' of the fenn loop either.Spring isnt strong enough, its fiddly, and time consuming to install, as well. OldTrapCollector 377
Rest assured that the original trap was much more efficient, when produced by Fenn back in the 80s As with a lot of copycat traps, imported cheaply from the Far East - the standard is just not up to the job Quote Link to post
perthshire keeper 1,239
where did you end up finding one? any chance of a picture just to see if its the same as the ones i got? Quote Link to post

earth-thrower 494
where did you end up finding one? any chance of a picture just to see if its the same as the ones i got? I got them off a crowd called ' Countryman Of Derby ' The pictures there, mate.I believe i bought the last two, (unless thats all they had,as a sample or something) They were calling them the (somewhat surprisingly) 'bisley barrel mole trap'.
