The Nwltc Dog Show And Race Day Sunday 7Th September 14

Recommended Posts

The North West Terrier,Lurcher and Whippet Club ( Barry Hollands Show ) Sunday 7th September 14

A brisk autumn wind blew softly through the trees, sending waves of leaves floating over our dog pens on Sunday morning. This was natures way of telling our Canine friends, the end of the showing season was approaching fast, and their weekly trots around the show ring for this year was coming to an end. With this in mind, it was time to leave Portadown for the day, and head to Strabane and the NWLTC Dog show and race day.

The morning was bright and clear and no rain in sight . We were joined by some friends on the way and stopped off at the Motorway Restuarant near Dungannon for some breakfast. In a short space of time we were back on the road again with trailers and dogs in toe. Very soon Artigarvan appeared on the Sat Nav, and we had arrived at our destination and the show ground for the day.

The good weather brought a good turn out of Terriers, Lurchers and Whippets at this show. There were many people there with families and dogs, and all out to catch the last moment of glory at the last working dog show of the season. It was great to see Barry Holland back to health again, and taking his rightful place alongside his colleagues on the organising committee.

The racing started at approximately 1oclock, and was quickly followed by the showing.

A Big Congratulations to all the worthy winners, and a great day was had by all.

And Finally, may I take this opportunity to thank Barry Holland, Joe Boggs, and committee for a well organised and enjoyable show on Sunday. Many thanks to the Judges Ryan O Neill/John Mc Hale/Paul Reynolds/Gerald Lynch/ Rodney Gibson and John Shaw for a remit well carried out and conducted with efficiency and Integrity. Judging is not an easy task at any time, but you executed your duties fair and with respect. Many thanks to all involved on behalf of the club.

And Finally, Finally, I could not end without thanking our resident photographer Deirdre Mc Coy for taking our photographs , and bringing much enjoyment to our households when we look at ourselves on Facebook and the Hunting Life. Many thanks Deirdre, you do a great job. None of this would be possible if it were not for the owner of the field, Paddy O Neill. Paddy you gave the show an excellent venue, and of that we are truly grateful.

And I always save the best to last. This accolade goes to the North West Terrier,Lurcher, and Whippet Club for inning a top class show, and for their presentation of a beautiful Shaefar engraved pen to myself for my contribution and write ups for their shows this year. I can honestly say I enjoyed every minute of it. I appreciate this thought and gift from the bottom of my heart, and will treasure it for the rest of my life. My sincere thanks to the committee and Chairman of the NWLTC

To conclude now, I would like to wish all my friends of the Canine fraternity a Happy Hunting ground for the rest of the season. Thank you all for your friendship and companionship at the shows during the year, and I look forward to meeting up with you all again in the new year, Please God.

PS. Dont forget the last Sporting Whippet Club of NI dog show of the year at Dunsilly Kennells, Belfast this Sunday 14th September 14 with Barbeque thrown in, and 2 qualifers for the 5 Nations Whippet Championship at Shanes Castle 2015.

And to close the showing season off, it’s then on to the last Great Irish Game Fair of the year, at Montalto, Ballinahinch on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th Sept 14.

See you all there.

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
