The Sporting Whippet Club Ni Charity Dog Show Saturday 30Th August 14

Recommended Posts

The Sporting Whippet of NI Charity Dog Show at Richardsons Estate, Moyallen, Portadown, Co Armagh Saturday 30th August 14.

Nestling in an idyllic setting, and sleeping deep in the beautiful Bann Valley countryside, the stunning Richardson Familys Moyallen Estate, Portadown, was the venue for the first Charity event, held by The Sporting Whippet Club of NI. This magnificent location, set in 500 acres of rolling countryside grandeur, lent itself to the Canine men and women of the Lurcher, Terrier, Whippet and Strong dog fraternity for a great and well supported Charity Dog Show and family day out on Saturday 30th August 14.For most of the day, we were blessed with good weather, with the exception of a few showers in the evening.

From10.30am onwards families and trailers began to arrive, and very soon it was nice to hear the joyous sound of the children playing on the many bales of straw left for us, around the field. It brought my memory floating back to my childhood days on the farm in Monaghan. When my late father would be taking in the bales of hay with the horse and hay cart, we used to jump on the bales for a ride back to the farm yard. God be with those days. If only we could bring them back, for even just for one day.

It was nice to see so many new faces at our show on Saturday. I had a long conversation with a very nice lady called Shirley Scott. Shirley and her beautiful Irish Wolf Hound, came all the way from Enniskillen to support our show. By speaking to Shirley, it was evident she has a wealth of knowledge in the Canine world, and it was certainly an education speaking to her. This is one of the many reasons I love doing this job. I meet so many nice like minded people.

With the rings up and the racing area marked out, judges at their remit, it was soon time to start our first ever charity dog show for the Sporting Whippet Club NI.

And Finally, may I take this opportunity to thank the Judges : Sam Towman -Whippets/Mickey Quinn -Lurchers/Paul Reynolds – Terriers/ Kieran Young - Strong Dogs, for a duty carried out to perfection, well expierenced in each ones field, and a job well done. Bluebell was there with her camera, and took some lovely photographs, which can be seen on this form. Many thanks Bluebell for that. We can always rely on you for a good photograph.

This first charity dog show would not of been such an overwhelming success if it had not of been for the following people. Paul Reynolds/ Carol Hill /Margaret Mc Stay/ John Mc Stay /Patsy Mc Coy/Deirdre Mc Coy/ Mickey Quinn, and all other members who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this charity dog show a roaring success.

A special word of thanks to our racing team,Carole Hill/Patsy Mc Coy/Mickey Quinn and Brian Crothers. The racing went without a hitch, and well done to all four people involved. Your hard work and meticulous team work paid off on the day, and above all, everyone enjoyed themselves.

And Finally, Finally, lets not forget the man at the helm on the day. Without his generosity, this successful event would not be possible. Yes, a big thank you to Johnny Richardson and the Richardson Family for giving the Sporting Whippet Club of NI the use of this stunning setting for our first Charity Dog Show. The Sporting Whippet Club NI donated a memorial Cup in memory of Johnnys late father Hugh Richardson as a token of our appreciation. This cup will be for Best in Show at each yearly Charity show, and will be called “The Hugh Richardson Memorial Cup”.

May I take this opportunity on behalf of The Sporting Whippet Club NI, to thank everyone for coming out to support the club on Saturday. Hopefully your generosity will make somebodys life a little easier to cope with as a result of your contribution. God willing we will do the same again next year.

Margaret Mc Stay.

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
      Margaret Mc Stay
