The Sporting Whippet Club of NI 5th Dog Show and Race day Sunday 10th August 14 at Dunsilly Kennells, Antrim.

Rain Rain go away, that was our signature tune at The Sporting Whippet Club of NI Show and Race day

at Dunsilly Kennells, Co Antrim, Sunday 10th August 14. From we came into the field at Dunsilly on Sunday, to we left it, I can honestly say we had 30 minutes of dry weather.

But although the wet weather kept coming at us on the horizon, this did not dampen the spirits of the Whippet men and women,North and South of the border, who braved the bad weather to come to Dunsilly for our 5th Whippet Club Dog show of the year, and also the 2nd last one of the showing year. How time flies when you are having fun

The craic and the banter was good, as the field filled up to a sizeable crowd for the enclement weather with some top quality whippets on Show.

Again this month, Forty Four top Class Whippets were shown in the ring, including 10 pups. Grading started for racing at approximately 12.30pm, Followed by showing, and racing completed after the showing.

And Finally, may I take this opportunity to thank our judge of the day, John Mc Stay for judging our whippets with efficiency and integrity, and a job well done.

Lets not forget our hard working committe, our chairman Paul Reynolds, and any club members who gave a helping hand on the day,and braved the bad weather to keep the show running smoothly for all to enjoy. Again this was very much appreciated.

Dunsilly is a superb venue, and all thanks goes out to Victor Mc Donald , owner of Dunsilly, for allowing the club to have their shows at this stunning piece of heaven in the County Antrim Countryside.

And finally, finally, many thanks to Patsy Mc Coy , racing manager, Sporting Whippet Club, and his most efficient assistant Carol Hill, Brian Crothers, and all their brilliant band of helpers for a great days racing. Without good team work this could not have happened. Well done Patsy, Carol and Brian, and all involved.

Bluebell was there on the day with her camera, and has taken some lovely photographs. I took some also myself with my mobile, and these are currently up on on my timeline on Facebook. Hopefully we will see them all up on the forums shortly.

Another very successful dog show and race day was held on Sunday at Dunsilly, and long may it continue.

Our last Sporting Whippet Club NI Show and Race day of this year will be held on Sunday 14th September 14, along with our end of season Barbecque. Full details later.

See you all there.

Margaret Mc Stay

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
      Margaret Mc Stay
