celticrusader 78
Tbh I use my hmr for rabbits and aolq mostly but also on the 100ms point and designated ranges 25,50 and 75 but also take rabbits up to 160 yards... so far that is . Pretty much the same with my semi auto 22lr and well up to the 100ms point and not further with that. tbh I dont see a point getting a bolt action on both as the hmr will always beat it distance wise and its flatter shooting but then I use the semi auto for close quieter work with follow up shotsvon rats and rabbits...something the muzzle sound of the hmr will scare away at close range...at enough distance you'll be alright with it. Just getting used to my .243 so to early to comment yet mate but I've got most reloading equipment in so i'll try that at a later date. Edited August 7, 2014 by celticrusader Quote Link to post

Have you tried the CZ511 or 512 is it the semi auto one? Might have a little play with that- only thing is that I tend to blast off the rounds at the range with the semi auto- when using rich's Mauser bolt action .22 I spent about half as much in twice the time! Just need to figure out what accessories I need now- bipod, mods, scope etc. already got a cracking deal on a bushnell elite 6500... Any recommendations for bipods, laser rangefinders etc? Mitchell Thompsett 7
Tried reloading at a friends house once- was actually really good fun and could see myself really getting into that and getting the best loads that I can etc! Almost therapeutic! Quote Link to post
celticrusader 78
Yeh I have a Brno 581 which is what the cz 511 was a remake of..cracking rifle but be careful if you go for one as the magazines are like chicken teeth to get hold of and although they are both the same rifle the mags are very finicky and there is a slight difference in them...8 shot mags but still better than a 10/22 bog standard anyways. celticrusader 78
I use both the hmr and semi auto as both have a similar job but one will out perform the other in a different scenario ...pointless getting 2 bolt actions I think especially when the the .22lr can be used for plinking and snap shooting on the range which is essential but even more fun than precision targetry. Just my opinion as its what works for me mate. Quote Link to post

Yer well looking at the 10/22's I'm seeing very high numbers (£600/£700) for what seems to be a standard gun with a bad stock and no frills :/ Defo need to test the 511 out now then! All failing that the Savage 93R17 btvs would look nice in the cabinet... Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
I have a 511 mate, it is as accurate as any bolt action I have owned including an Anschutz carbine, the triggers are heavy but crisp, and you soon get used to it, mine will head shoot bunnies all day at yards, but parts are no longer available,(well not many) the new 512 is a cracking rifle too, a pal of mine has one very accurate and dead reliable, I hate .17 hmr so wont comment except to say dont bother, and see if your feo will let you have a .22 hornet, a million times better, the 10/22s are a good rifle if you do a trigger job or buy a replacement trigger, the standard one is like a kids cap gun, pathetic, the thing with Ruger's is you can buy so many bits to customise them, the sky is the limit really, I would have gone for a .303 for target personally, but whatever, enjoy mate. celticrusader 78
Bog standard 10/22s can be picked up for about £170-250 and then you could use it as a project and slowly customise it...that said I've known a few buy customisable breakdown kits for £450 which is what my mate wants and as he's used one and had a rabbit at 140 yards which is amazing for a semi auto then I guess it warrants the extra price...I think rimfire magic and someone else do them aswell. Yep gotta admit I absolutely love my Brno 581 and i'll stick some pics up after for you...really light aswell. Quote Link to post

Yes I will have a look at the lee Enfield .303, still earky stages so gonna have a bit of practice with the rifles I get, then hopefully branch out and see what suits me best! Can't wait to start whatever guns I end up getting as long as they shoot straight!! Quote Link to post

Mitchell Thompsett 7
PIC 2 That's pretty tidy mate! Went to sportsmans and tried the cz512 and the ruger 10/22 with upgrades trigger- totally changed my view on the 10/22 because of the trigger and match barrel and nicer stock! Only £550 as well! They pretty much confirmed that they are dickheads though. Asked the one guy what are the differences between the CZ452/453/455 are and he sarcastically said 'well they're different models' Currently looking at other gunshops in my area! Quote Link to post
