Brummy 9
These pics were taken by my brother last month in South Africa on his girlfriend's families Farm (sheep and cattle over thousands of acres !). The hounds were bought over from England in the 1930's and line bred ever since. They are used to hunt Jackal and Lynx. The Kelpies are now widely preferred to collies out there and also hunt along side the hounds. Quote Link to post

They would have to be tough dogs living out there, i read that alot of dogs are lost to snake bites and some times to lions that hunt at night. Quote Link to post
mad al 146
Fine looking pack . Kelpies are quite popular with the local sheep farmers here, but they're a bit too noisy for me Quote Link to post
Simoman 110
When you planning a visit then Brummy? Do you mean Caracal rather than Lynx? Thousands of acrs eh? :tongue4: Quote Link to post
Neal 1,930
A shepherd who lives a few miles from me uses kelpies and he says that one of the benefits of them over collies is that he can work them in blistering summer heat, when we get any, without any worries. In general they're not supposed to be too vocal and mine are so quiet that some of my neighbours took several months to discover I even had any dogs. Quote Link to post
Brummy 9
Another plus with the Kelpie's is that they have a very strong guarding instinct so I'm told........ Quote Link to post
Neal 1,930
It depends on the individual. One of mine doesn't trust anybody, but is completely besotted by me, whereas the other adult is everybody's friend. Apparently ACDs are more likely to be "a bit iffy with strangers." Having said that, my friendly one did once put a burglar off entering my house. Quote Link to post
