Good morning ferreting today...

Recommended Posts

Me and swandog1 off this site were out today with some of our ferrets doing a few warrens along hedges and fences.

From the first few warrens we had about 8 rabbits, and we hadnt even been out too long, all of them were bolters, then we did a nice wee 4 holer under a couple of small trees along a fence. While we were bloody netting the warren a rabbit poked his wee head out of one of the holes that was unnetted, I thought it would go back down once it saw me but the feckin thing bolted! Couldnt bloody belive it  !! So anyway we put a couple of ferrets down and get a rabbit bolting into the net. We wait for a while longer then have a look with the locator and find that one of the ferrets is staying with a rabbit. Anyway it was some very fecking stony ground, and just as we get a couple of feet down out pops a rabbit and bolts away, it had jumped through the loose soil I was about to scoop out. Shit! Thats the rabbit gone then, or so we think. In this one stopend was a further 5 rabbits, one of them the ferret was holding onto the rest were bottled up. Couldnt fecking believe it again!! That was 6 down the one stopend! Well worth a small dig in the rocky ground like!

I think we dug a further twice (to only one rabbit each time tho! :D) on the next two warrens, a big warren and a small one, because the wind had picked up so we thought that might be why they werent bolting so freely. Ended the day (well about 4 hours of ferreting) with 18 rabbits to lug back to the car. We had also lost 4 from freak digging errors and unnetted holes so it would have been more. All in all a great day!

This was taken with my new camera phone, I thought I was taking a pic but I made a video

Cheers,

PS, I think this just proves that a collar is a worthwhile bit of kit. If we had waited for the ferret to come up rather than digging we wouldnt have left just the one rabbit, but 6. :victory:
