How's Moult?

Recommended Posts

All looks good vlads wing bash area has one feather that stays in blood until I take his food down but I just keep an eye on it and if worried will give it a good spray of vets iodine spray but then have a bright blue bird for the season !!

Looking forwad to the season to get my little lad out in the field. Just hope my backs up to it I've had two ops this year and having epidural tomorrow fun!! I have missed my lanner flying this summer but I had to sell her for her own good. It was not fair to keep her on a block all year she deserved better than that! Gutted!!!

Vlad seem ok in his aviary but I can see in his grumpy fat weight eyes that he is waiting to get out and go!!

All the best

Lee

I've been too busy to think about my hawks moult. She's dropping feathers but apart from looking at her twice her day to see she's ok and keeping her aviary reasonably clean I don't think about it. She will be ready by September. Summer is a very busy time for me anyway but this year I decided to get a lot more work done on my property, sheds, greenhouse, new roof on the garage, new chicken shed and run, small pheasant pen, ferret court, finish the stable, new locks on everything, new fence around the garden, etc etc. I still have CCTV to install and a load of other stuff which will easily keep me busy until September. I haven't had time to do much fishing which is normally a big part of my year. I also have to go to work.

The March- September period just isn't long enough to fit everything in, the hunting season especially with just a Harris is relaxing by comparison lol.

I've told Steve I go out as much as possible weather permitting and I've almost begged him to tag along if he wants. With a couple of hawk friendly dales keepers within a forty minute drive we might get some hunting done. With a new ferret team and hopefully a GWP pup coming I'll need a hand.

Next time you see Steve tell him not to be shy, all he'll have to do is ring me and were away. I'm not allowing myself to think about next season yet because whenever I do I get a bit excited about the possibilities this time round lol.

After the day I've had I would have given up anything to be out with the hawk. Looks like I'm gonna end up keeping this spar imprint to fly for the season aswell. God help me lol. Good thing I've got a great mentor to help me out with her. Magpies and partridge had better watch out

Jess dropped this primary feather last week I got some feedback of a few mates some said it was WTO some say blister so took her to vet Monday all clear check wing and all feathers she said that she must of damaged the feather last season wich I didn't noticed and when it tried to heal went into a crusty blister! BUT she's all good! Got me worried abit when she dropped last week ?

Good luck with it, I plan on spending a few days out with a lad and his goshawk but I know I only have the time for one hawk. I'm only getting in another pointer because I didn't train the one I have. I'll end up with three dogs which is one too many really but it seems unavoidable when the first two are getting on a bit and it takes time to get a replacement trained and ready.
