Ancient ''telemetry''?

What I want to know is in the days before telemetry was invented what did falconers you to find lost hawks and falcons? This has always interested me as I love to learn how our predecessors did things. Thanks in advance for any info.

Used fieldcraft basically, obviously bells have been around for a long long time, and at close range are a big help, but at any distance, the falconer would have to get on some high ground, and watch for signs, like crows magpies etc mobbing something, pretty much what most of us still do to an extent, before breaking out the receiver :thumbs:
