Nilrc Club Members Raceday and Dog Show at Annaghmore, Co Armagh Saturday 7th June 14

Orchard County has had its fill this year of top class shows and race days . Another trophy was added to this brilliant line up, with the club members of the Nilrc holding a race day and showing at Annaghmore , Co Armagh on Saturday 7th June 14. Although the weather was dreadful, this did not stop like minded sportsmen and women coming together to support this great event.

The organisation of this show was good from start to finish and the venue was superb. A good long race track, and a brilliant lure operator, topped up with quality dogs, all out with one thing in mind, to catch up with the lure, and bring home so nice trophies for their masters and mistresses. Keeping the weather in mind on Saturday, a good crowd was in attendance. There was a Chippy and Ice Cream van on sight. A welcome relief for our wee people and some of the grownups and auld lassies like me, as well.

This year, I have noticed so many more women taking part in our dog shows, and this trend is growing fast up and down the country and further afield. It is nice to see the opposite sex taking over, or on a par with the male population in country sports. We need you ladies to keep up the good work. You are part of the driving force that make our Country Sport and shows so interesting and successful during the show and hunting seasons. You know the saying “Behind every good man is a good woman. “ The men cannot even win a bet on a dog these days. I over heard a certain young lady, put a £1 bet on a race with a certain gentleman. Guess who won. Definitely not the gentleman.

The Racing heats started at approximately 12.30noon, followed by the showing, and then the racing finals in that order. Here are the results of the showing and racing at Saturdays

And Finally may I take this opportunity to thank the judge of the day, Joe Boggs for a job well done. I know Joe you are an old hand at this job, but as usual, you carried out your duties efficently, and fair. Many thanks for that. Billy Harpur was there, clicking away with his camera and capturing our moment of glory. Looking forward to see the photographs up on the forums shortly.

And Finally , Finally, what a hard working group of people I witnessed at this show on Saturday. Team work comes to mind here with a capital T. These Nilrc club members all set out on Saturday with one thing in mind, to make this show a success, and that was what they achieved on the day.

Clayton Hastings was master of ceremonies and handled the PA system with great vigour, and kept everybody on their toes. Fiona Briordy/Charlene Rafferty/Barry Holland/Gerald Maybin/Lee Archer/ Arlene Greer/ Davy Best, and everybody who played a part in organising this event on Saturday, a job well done and a fantastic display of great team work. You are a credit to your club and the Nilrc, and may the club go from strength to strength. Look forward to more of the same shortly.

* Please note a donation from the Nilrc club members Raceday will be given to the local Parish Church in the area.

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
