Gilford Lurcher, terrier, Whippet And Strong Dog Show At The National Country Fair At The Maze, Saturday 31St May 14

Recommended Posts

Gilford Lurcher, Terrier, Whippet and Strong Dog Show , at the National Country Fair at the Maze, Saturday 31st May 14.

The sun was shinning in abundance as we made our way to the new venue for the Gilford Terrier, Lurcher, Whippet and Strong Dog Show at the Maze, Lisburn. on Saturday the 31st May 14.

We arrived at the Maze at approximately 10.30am and already at that time the car parks was beginning to fill up fast. Very soon, Canine folk began to arrive, with family and dogs in tow. There was plenty of ringside parking, with a very nice green grass enclosure for showing and racing events.

Although I was so used to going to Moira to this show for years, it was nice to see the new venue working out so well. There was an added bonus as well on site as the dog show was part of the National Country Fair. This enabled everybody to go and have a walk around the fair with their friends and pick up some bargains along the way before the Racing and Showing began.

It was not long to I met up with Derek Lutton , one of the directors of the National Country Fair and his lovely wife Gillian. What a nice couple, and so welcoming. Derek and Gillian were two very busy people on Saturday and Sunday, keeping every thing running smoothly.

Along the way I visited Charlie Keenans stand, all full of Country Sports wear, and business booming on the day. Went in and visited the Barbour Coat Stand, and had a little conversation with Mr Smith. What a lovely man, and a great conversationalist.

As we were all getting hungry, burgers and chips were on the menu, and they were delicious. Enroute back to the show ring I stopped of at Out Door Experience stand, Portdown, and had a chat with our friend and proprietor Richard Caddell. What a great business man. Business was brisk for Richard on Saturday, with everything you could ask for in his Country Sports attire stand.

One thing that struck me most at this Dog Show and Country Fair was the way the children were catered for. There was a complete amusement park with all the fun of the fair for the little people, and all for themselves. I am sure there were some very sleepy heads on Sunday.

The Dog Show started at approximately 12.30 noon, with Simulated Racing first, followed by Showing. There were some really nice dogs at this show on Saturday.

I will put up a full set of results of racing and showing as soon as I receive them.

And Finally, may I take this opportunity to thank the Judges for a job well done.

Kieran Young - Whippets

Paddy Mc Carthy - Lurchers

Pete Dodds - Terriers

Philip Mc Kinistry - Strong Dogs

Despite the strong sun shining down all day, you carried out your task to perfection. Bluebell was there with her camera, clicking our every move in the ring and the racing . Looking forward to seeing your photographs up shortly.

And Finally, Finally, a lot of hard work and organisation went into organising this brilliant dog show at the Maze. This would not of been possible if it were not for three very important people, Ian Davison , Justin Hill, Ben Davison and their brilliant band of helpers, and all the people in the background that worked so hard to make this show so successful.

Ian, Justin and Ben, the show was a credit to you all, successful, and ran like clockwork. Excellent team work, and I am already looking forward to more of the same next year.

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
