Cedric 132
Is it worth trying to float the barrel on a standard 10/22 to try and achieve a little more accuracy? It would mean removing the barrel band; what function does this serve and could I do away with it? Perhaps bed the first couple of inches of the barrel and then remove stock material until it was clear. Next problem - I have a synthetic stock. Do you think it would be strong enough without being strapped to the barrel? I was planning on fitting a bipod and wondered if the forend might be too flexible to support it, though I could always strengthen the inside of the forend. Any (sensible ) suggestions welcome. charlie caller 3,654
Yes to floating the barrel, my mate put a hogue stock on his, which floats the barrel, we saw an immediate improvement to accuracy, and the fore end is stiff so no problem with a bipod, a decent aftermarket stock is a must in my opinion, but a yes to floating the barrel, although I suspect the improvement came from better stock bedding rather than barrel floating.
