How Many?

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am posting this question as I am somewhat of a rookie when it comes to ferreting. We have kept the odd ferret over the years so would still have a lot to learn. I am more terrier inclined ie digging. But a few months ago I got my hands on a lurcher who I must say impressed me straight away with his speed and sharp turns and shear heart, under the lamp he misses very few (more human error by giving him impossible slips) So I decided to get a ferret and give the bunnys a run in daylight, and was very surprised that the dog switches up another couple of gears ,in daylight there is no stopping him. But it's the ferret that's annoying me he isn't the quickest but puts bunny out sometimes we have to dig him, but was wondering how many ferrets do/would you use, would just like to speed things up a bit thanks

All depending on the size of the burrows your working irishdog?

I've worked warrens with at least a few hundred holes and with 5 ferrets in it still takes a while to get them to shift.

Don't over do it or you'll be digging more than your bolting.

Yes leeview hob, never knew that about being slower thanks , beam as for warrens our permission does very from one holers to 20, but never anymore, every hole we take him to he digs at least once. We recently obtained permission with a farmer who want all vermin controlled, so glad to get more permission I said no problem, thing is its in a thorny ditch running 100 yards and digging in that stuff is a nightmare, about 20 holes would you double up, are Jill's less aggressive

you mentioned "he", hobs are usually slower workers than jills

Y.I.S Leeview

that's a matter of opinion. . . yours is wrong . :tongue2:

2 good hobs will do the work of 4 good jills in a day

I'd work two in a set of that size, entering one at one end and the other at the opposite end.

A sett of that size will have many channels for the bunnies to run around so even the best of stinkers take a while to push them out into your nets.

All the best with your new permission bud.
