"Field of Dreams" Dog Show and Raceday Sunday 13th April 14

Field Of Dreams is an established business run and owned by the Hurley family, with an up to date Schooling Track, and distances of 325yds, 350yds,525yds and 550yds. All of this grandeur is set in the rolling countryside of Maghera, on the edge of the beautiful North Coast of Ireland. This was the venue for the Dog Show and Race day Sunday... 13th April 14. After a trouble free journey, with dogs in tow, we arrived at our destination at approximately 11.00am.

The place was buzzing with activity, with a burger stand to feed us all day, and other stalls, all set up and ready to go for another days proceedings. The weather was good, but very cold later on in the evening. There was a very nice crowd of like minded Country Sports people there on Sunday, all out with the same goal in mind to win on the day, and generally out to enjoy a good country sports event.

It was nice to see so many new faces there, along with all the regular show goers. The banter and the craic was good, with large and small families, old and young taking in the first rays of spring. Along the way I met up with Mark Doherty and his growing up fast son Jamie. Jamie is growing fast into one of our showmen of tomorrow, and a good showman he will make too.

Gerard Lynch was there in full swing, with his prize winning dogs, as well as the whole Lynch families. I also met up with Billy Harpur, and him smiling from ear to ear. Billy is one happy camper these days. Could it be love is in the air. Keep smiling Billy, I will keep your secret close to my heart.

It is always nice to meet nice people, and they were out in abundance at the Field of Dreams on Sunday. Some new faces to me, I also had a chat with Desy Hackett and Mal Mc Fall. All keen sportsmen, but I just had not the pleasure of speaking to them before. All young people out to enjoy the sport they love.

The Showing Began at approximately 12.00noon. Here are the Overall Results

110 Dogs Raced on the day, what a turnout.

And finally, may I take this opportunity to thank everybody who come out and supported the show on Sunday. To the judges, who done a first class job in the ring. Judging can be a hard task master at times, but you carried out your duties effective and efficiently at all times. Many thanks for that. Photographs were taken by several people on Sunday, and are now proudly displayed on our face book pages. I cannot forget the bookie on site Mark One, who took our bets, won some and lost some and created a flurry of excitement after each race. Well done to you and to all the winners too.

And Finally, Finally, if it were not for the organisers, Joe Hurley, owner of the “Field of Dreams” Nigel Greer, and their loyal band of helpers, who worked tirelessly, before and on the day to make this show a success and a comfortable and enjoyable day out for all, this day would not of been possible. Also many thanks to Arlene and Melissa Greer , emailed all the showing and racing results to me. A job well done. Many thanks again to all involved.

I must say, Joe and Nigel when I left the “ Field of Dreams” on Sunday evening, I left a little piece of my heart there. I love that Schooling Track, and look forward to many more Dog Shows and Racedays at this excellent venue.

Definitely 2 Gold Stars for Joe and Nigel.

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
