I remember someone telling me years ago about weasels doing nests up trees and I was a bit doubtful of it till today. I was setting a couple of squirrel traps when I heard a bit of commotion up a tree and looked up to see a stoat after a half grown grey squirrel about 20ft up a lime tree which she caught in the end and carried back down to the ground. They're nearly as agile as squirrels :o . All this while me and my mate were stood about 5ft away from the tree. Anyone else ever seen them up trees?

Hopefully she'll stick to greys and leave the reds alone.

Never personally whitnissed it mate. But I've certainly heard enough other, first hand, accounts of stoats climbing. These from 100% reliable whitnesses ~ funnily enough, half of which were as amazed as you appear to be ;)

Have ye not seen that film too, of a mink shooting right up into a tree, when the Mink Hounds were after him? 12 Bore soon sorted that b*stard out!

In my shooting days, i once shot a stoat out of a squirrel drey and another time, squeeked a stoat up, which proceeded to climb a tree (to get a better look? who knows) from whence he was removed with an ounce of lead.

Ive also seen a weasel in the fir trees in the garden, obviously looking for birds in nests.

So i presume its a common occurance.
