No I dont think I should - he comes on every single thread where people are trying to advise the young, inexperienced etc not to waste their time and hard earned going to that mans kennels where he breeds from non workers and doesnt bother to take the time to socialise his pups. The sheer amount of dogs with temperamental and behavioural problems that come out of that kennels should tell people to vote with their feet and go elsewhere, but not everyone knows about it, so forums are a good place to learn. Every time Hancock is mentioned you get a stream of people with merle collie crosses coming on to kiss his butt and say how great he is. I was just pointing out the irony of his post. Hes selling a pup when most folk would be dying to get it out and see what potential the pup has

I see your flying the scotland flag good stuff :D , you will find out how much of a gob I have if I ever meet you as I am the same in person as I am on forums ie I speak my mind and tell it as I see it

sjm , you talk of potential out of a pup ............all i can say is a pup from hancock is like a fecking robot , it just does what you point it at , no more and no less .........having said that there is hardly any prey drive within a hancocks dog and further more i would not like to attempt training one to work without the aid of another dog to show the hancocks the ropes , i speak from expierience , i have a hancocks lurcher at the moment , ..........so i for one support you one hundred percent in your quest to try and educate young folk who don't know the truth about hancock Edited by noddy and big ears

Im sorry to hear that Noddy I genuinely am :( If folk think I am gobby I dont really care, if one person reads what I write and thinks twice about going there and instead goes and buys a pup off someone who works their dogs - then I feel I have acheived something useful by posting

How old is your pup if you dont mind me asking? and what cross is it?

Sorry for butting in to this thread but I'm a bit nonplussed as to why SJM is being heckled so heavily. For several reasons David Hancock's lurchers usually bring about a heated response in many people. My first two lurchers were bred by him and both had positive and negative points. Having said that, this was over fifteen years ago so I would not be able to pass comment on his present breeding. I can see why some would buy dogs from him as much as I can see why some would not. SJM's response was based on her own opinion and therefore should be accepted for what it is: an opinion about a particular approach to breeding based on her own experience. We have enough enemies without to start expecting them within.

No there is plenty of other people who breed decent collie lurchers. Paul Douglas has bred some cracking dogs over the years allthough I dont think he does anymore, sadly. Ian Clayton, Mick Dadd, Typp Ratcher, OnlytheCony I beleive bred some not so long ago that were on this forum, also Colliejohn off this site, and lots more, there are decent dog lads out there breeding decent dogs you just have to look for them, and wait til they have a litter of pups available.

I would rather go to someone who WORKS their dogs to get a WORKING dog, it makes sense after all. A lad who has one of my pups (free of charge as he had one off me years ago and it was killed in the field so he came back to me for another to replace the old dog) visited the other day to show me how his pup was doing and was telling me about a lad he knows who went to Hancock for a pup. We got on the subject cos Id been telling him about this thread. The guy went there cos he wanted a blue merle collie cross with blue eyes. Fair enough you might say. He gets the puppy home and on closer observation, its got something up with its gait. Off to the vets and vet confirms the pup has suffered a break to its leg at a very young age, around 3 wks. Now please tell me what sort of dog man rears pups and doesnt notice when they have suffered an agonising injury? :icon_eek:
