Getting Thinner On The Ground.

Hello all

Trigger came up with Buster from Shropshire on Monday for a visit..So we went up Dales after tea at my house and headed for the higher fields first.. the moons was up and the wind was down and all the odds were against us for lamping..Plus we have already cleared most of the bunnies in the area of permission we were on.. we really struggled to find any decent runs all night..we dropped off at a couple of spots but the night was a total waste ending on 11 rabbits for a few hours walking about..Buster was keen to go but not enough for him to go at.. It was unfortunate that we picked the worst night ever for lamping..but the lack of game was the main factor.
We stayed in the van for a few hours kip until 7am when Tomo was due to arrive for some Ferreting action..he was late as usual..lol.
We had our bacon butties and a cuppa (made by me of course) and headed off up the valley onto some woodlands and bankings that we hav'nt been near this year so far.
we split into 3 teams with Trigger using 2 of my jills and and Tomo off with his pack and me with my new hob and old jill plus 2 dogs.
Occasionally through the day we met up and checked all was well ,But mostly we all did our own thing following the dogs marking burrows and netting up the warrens.
I had a great day and even managed to sit down on the ferret box a couple of times and take in the glorious day we were having up on them hills. . when we woke up it was thick with snow up on the top where we were..but a few hundred feet down the valley and by dinnertime it was sun shine and coats off.
The dogs and ferrets all worked very well and I had a great day testing out my new pack member.
We ended on 60 bunnies between the 3 of us.
Its always good to see Trigger and Buster and its been great watching that dog develop from a pup to the full on beast of a dog he is nowadays.. I have seen some good dogs over the years but that dog has impressed me so much over the last couple of years. For a 27 inch 75Lb dog he catches rabbits like a whippet when he,s over them warrens,Its quite unbelievable how fluid his movement is.. he's a credit to John.
