Ferreting Permission

Recommended Posts

Aye but theres a few guys packing in because of the lack of rabbits you might get lucky .

My furthest permission is nearly two hours away one guy i took there chapped every door he could between there and home because of the amount of rabbits we caught that day . You will get permission but you will need to put the mileage in

The first suggestions when asking for permission is knock some doors... Now whilst I cant handle rejection and still having my scouse accent despite being down south 20 years, Ive never had much luck, so I dont bother much, only if I fancy my chances. BUT, the lad Ive just started going ferreting with will knock doors all day long, and it works! We picked up a couple of bits the other day, bits Ive just looked at for years. It was weird, people do say yes. Must be my accent.. Just keep knocking bud, maybe take the Mrs or daughter along, tell them its the girls that are interested. Apparently, the sight of a female disarms wary farmers, slightly..

When we are out we always look over the fence see a few rabbits we call in there on the way home . " Hi we do the rabbits for Mr Smith next door and wondering if you would like us to do yours ?. Often they say aye we often see you about crack on . Once i got told they had somebody doing it but could i leave a card 8 months later i got a call to see the secretary on the estate the guy who only did a odd weekend had been dumped and we got it as they saw us every week . Never just look at farms if your only wanting ferreting sports grounds etc theres rabbits in loads of odd places

700 acres today knocking on a livery yard on the way home from work. Including that 700, in the past 10 weeks I've acquired nearly 1500 acres on various estates, farms, livery yards and even a quarry for ducks and rabbits. Few key points I ALWAYS implement include dress and speech. Always dress in reasonable gear. Trackies and a hoody are a big no. Wellies are acceptable as you may be walking in muddy farm yards etc. First point is to get down to business and ask straight for the owner, you dont want to look like you're lingering so you can steal stuff from the yard and because whats the point asking the stable hand who has no authority? Second. Sir or Madam and shake the hand. People love being brown nosed. Third, honesty. Why are you there and why should they give it to you over Joe Bloggs? Fourth, INSURANCE. You need to look like you're not a reckless lout who will shoot anything who moves. Fifth, providing you get to this stage, Paperwork! I have written permo for all my land AND offer copies of your certificates and insurance details. Sixth, is probably most important. Proof. Once you have shot land, photo your kills and send them a text the next day with your achievement (dont include the photo, only show it if they ask to see). Life is all about who you know, and if you impress one person, they WILL tell their friends. You can also use that to gain more permo by proving you can do the job.

Hope this helps a few people.
