Hi gents I have a mk1 bsa lightning I'm wanting to smarten it up abit while I have abit of time on my hands. It has recently had a the internals replaced and shoots well. Now I'm wanting to re finish the stock. What are the best products for re finishing it? And any other tips to help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance yorkshire-kid

I use Tung Oil. It's not poisonous (unlike Linseed Oil) and can even be used on work surfaces in contact with food, kids' toys, etc. After a fine sanding of the wood, brush on a thin coat of Tung Oil and leave it to soak in. When dry, rub over with fine wire wool to take off any flecks of wood raised by the oil penetrating the wood. Repeat (thin coat of oil, dry, wire wool) until it no longer soaks in but stays on the surface in patches. Wipe off with a lint-free cloth, leave to dry in a warm room for 24 hours and you should have a glowing satin finish, waterproof and silky to the touch. It takes a bit of time, but the wood will look beautiful afterwards -- really brings out the grain detail.
