One Of Those Days?

Recommended Posts

An old mate called at the house this evening and the talk got around to rabbits slipping out of purse nets, It reminded me of a day about 4 years ago where every rabbit I bolted slipped the net 5 in all. There was no rhyme or reason to it, after the first one slipped the net I blamed myself and was extra carefull setting on the next warren. No change though the only occupant bolted and the net got caught in the brambles and tipped over sideways tipping the rabbit out of the net and off it ran. This continued for the next two warrens where for one reason or another the rabbit got out of the net.

By that time I was apopelctic with rage, there was steam coming out of my ears  the last warren was a six holer all open holes nothing that could stop the net pursing, I was just about to put the ferret down when I noticed a small dent in the grass, when I looked at it it was a bolt hole going straight down vertically as far as I could see, so I covered the hole with a net and entered the ferret. It took about 30 seconds for the rumbling to start, I looked around just in time to see the rabbit bolt from the bolt hole, I kid you not the rabbit must have gone a good 18 inches into the air pushing the net in front of it as the net started to purse the rabbit dropped to the ground and before the net could fall over it it was gone. That was it, I had just had enough I did not know wether to laugh or scream, there was something cursing me that day. The next week I was back at the same place and had 14 without losing a rabbit out of a net. Go figure that?

I can honestly say though I have never had a day like that before or since thank god. We all loose that odd rabbit and personally I really don't mind but that day Really sticks in my mind. Has anyone else had simular? :hmm:

It normally happens to me after I've been cut to shreds by brambles ,been stung on the face by nettles and had my knees punctured by hawthorns. ( all on the same warren) ............But'll I'll still get out there and do again as we do.

If it's a net that I put down I'll blame the ferret.................... but if not one of mine then there's plenty of gentle banter on the way home  .
