Ex Battery Hens

Recommended Posts

saw an ad in vets recently for rehoming battery hens.

don,t know anything about them so any info would be great,

the charity pledges to pay for all vet cost for life and that they still produce eggs.

i was under the impression that a cockerel was needed for them to lay eggs but have been told this isn,t the case.

can anybody enlighten me?

i have an enclosed back garden and life in a street with neighbours either side

is it legal to keep poultry in this environment?

if it is ok and a cock isn,t required then there would be no early morning noise and i can,t see any problems .

obviously proper accomadation would need to be built for them but can it really be this easy ?

Had few hens myself there no need for a cock they will just be too noisy and neighbours will hate you we bought a huge buff Orpington thinking was a hen turned out to be a cockeral and christ the noise it made early morning was ridiculous! !

My old man has 7 ex battery hens they are great layers and nice and easy to keep we had to let our go as they were really messy and with work been so busy just didn't have time but do miss them fresh eggs .

So carnt go wrong with ex battery hens bud atb. Matt
