Suzy Ross 236
Don't think I've ever seen one, definitely never owned one ha. I can live with false markings and his hunting up has produced some exciting runs. The couple of quick bites at it as he's approaching is the biggest pain. He's not always done it, just the last year or 2. I've lost many a rabbit in the past with him dropping them and them running off. Not anymore, maybe as he's got older he's making sure after all that effort, they're going no where lol Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
Good write up. Enjoyed that I'm off out tonight for a quick shine. Won't be giving my bitch many runs but will try to find my mate a few squatters for his pup. This rain is hammering down. Just hope it's not so bad that the bunnys go in. Quote Link to post
Suzy Ross 236
Thanks Gaz, some of the best nights I've had have been the worst weather wise. Drizzle seems to be good too. Dunno if it dampens their senses. Coincidently, some of the worst ferreting days have been in heavy rain. Not sure if its more to do with you remember the lay ups more when the rains dripping off your nose ha. Quote Link to post

C Hall 552
Decent night well done, did you ever track anything else with jasper or is he just used for rabbits? Quote Link to post
Suzy Ross 236
Mostly rabbits, lost my last dog chasing a deer, freak accident, could have happened chasing anything so i try to avoid them. Hes ran a couple but he just runs beside them wondering what to do. He's "accidentally" took the odd hare, usually when ferreting and he's got bored. Never bothered with foxes, that's me not him, he's never been on one. I used to go for hares before the ban with a previous dog, but can't be bothered with the hassle now. I think this will be his last serious season, little past injuries are catching up on him. Quote Link to post

It's more the stiffness the next day after lamping or that night after ferreting. I only run him every second day now and even then, it's only a dozen runs at most. This'll be his last serious season then he'll only be used as a steady head to bring on a pup. Quote Link to post

That's great, nothing beats watching a young dog click to what he's meant to do, makes all the work worth while. Cheers guys, much appreciated. He's off till Sunday morning, hope to give you a write up of the day, all going well. Quote Link to post

It ended up a great night for me, even tho I never had a mutt out, watching a mate whilst his young dog started getting them in the bag was rewarding to say the least, I don't know who was happiest lol his young dog for finally putting it altogether, him watching his young dog and realising all his hard work an effort had paid off, or me for getting to watch him and his dog becoming a team and really enjoying the night... sad I know but I still get the same buzz I did with my 1st dog..lol Edited November 1, 2013 by Hot Meat Quote Link to post
