When To Have Bitch Spayed ?

Hi I'm thinking of having my whippet bitch spayed ,when is the best time to have this done? it is 6 weeks till her next season or should be is this to close ? Thanks for any reply's john

Best to do it mid way between her seasons. That way she is in a non hormonal state of mind for the rest of her life. This is because the hormones that alter on the way up to a season will already be kicking in about a month before the season starts. If she is a definite 6 weeks away from season you should be just OK. But some vets will spay at any time right up to a season or even just after, not a good idea.

had mine done after 1st season,about a 2 month after no problems just watch the food intake after for weight gain this is not a myth.had 2 dogs done both hard to keep weight down.

It needs to be done mid way between seasons as that's when the blood flow to the uterus is at its lowest,

some vets will do it at any time, but most like to wait for the mid way point as there's less complications

when there's less blood flow.
