paulf 820
its not my thing to have a go at people but why didn't you give him some more time mate hes still young ... how fit was he? to many people don't have the time or PATIENCE with young dogs and want one doing it all straight away... plus him catching and running home isn't jacking ... how was his recall ? 2 Link to post

whitefeet4190 1,729
I started him late last season, it's not a training error as far as I can see he did everything perfect when he caught straight back to hand, but sometimes he wouldn't even pull on the lead when he saw a rabbit run just seemed not interested, and I'd never run an unfit dog that is one on my pet hates in the lurcher world, lads running unfit dogs and then wondering why they can't catch? Trust me this dog lacked drive or did it when he wanted to but if u couldn't be arsed he wouldn't, I am gutted because I put so much time in to him that's [BANNED TEXT] is even most fustrating that I have seen he do it and do it well but I won't keep a dog that does it when he wants too Link to post

And now he's jacked. You can see why lads are asking the questions fella. Link to post

He was fit mate and he wouldn't catch before he ran home he would run the rabbit for a couple of paces then think f**k this and go home or run back to car like he did last year, I wish u could of all seen him to know [BANNED TEXT] he was like, trust me he did lack the drive and only used it when he wanted to which wasn't very often Link to post

Has he missed lots? How many has he caught? Link to post
hubbs 178
Few easy runs normally sorts it out ! Run too many near hedges they soon get sick of it ! I'd of tried some droppers ! Get the confidence up ! It could possibly be a jacket but doesn't sound like it ! plus I agree with kennel space is crucial but something doesn't add up Link to post
hubbs 178
Beat me to it graham haha I was just writing about confidence Link to post
paulf 820
how old was he when you first tried him ? was he over matched to young ? Link to post
whitefeet4190 1,729
I agree with paulf !! Still only young ! You had many dogs before ?? Yes his recall was perfect healed like a lab and came every where with me, I have had 3 lurchers including him still got 1 and one died out lamping, I have terriers and also train labs for field trails so I am a dog man not just a man with a dog, Link to post

Has he missed lots? How many has he caught? I think ur right it might of been a confidence thing but he was completely different in the day ferreting and bushing and other stuff he was fine but when lamping it was just like he was scared of the dark and lost all his drive, I am really gutted about it I tried loads of different things but to no avail Link to post

whitefeet4190 1,729
He was maybe a bit young when I started him but he seemed to be physically and mentally ready for it, think he was 14 months but maybe I was wrong to start him then? Link to post
whitefeet4190 1,729
Yer I had to make a decision Paul like I said this was at least the second time he has done this sometimes he just wouldn't even run when I slipped him on a rabbit, o well feel bad coz I really liked the dog but [BANNED TEXT] can you do if it lacks prey drive, it's a very hard thing to put in to s dog Link to post
