pup injury

Recommended Posts

Sorry mods if this is in the wrong section.I have just been out with the dogs, the terriers and my beddyxwhippet pup were chasing each other in some long grass, next thing the pup pulls up and lies down. She never yelped just stopped and lay down.I picked her up and put her on her feet, and she lifted her front left leg and started hobbling after me,i stopped checked the leg and couldn't feel any break/dislocation.She has walked home fairly well but wont run,and now after checking again it seems quite swollen just above the joint.Should i get her to the vet or see how she is in a bit? HELP

Edited to say,she is 7 months old

Just got back from the emergency vet.Vet thinks its just tissue damage from a twist, she gave her a jab of pain killers and some anti inflammatorys, and she has to go back again in the morning for another check.I cannot believe how much and how quick the swelling came up,i've been keeping dogs for 30 odd years, and never seen this kind of injury before. I'm relieved, but am dreading the bill, anyone any idea what i should expect bill wise ?We were in there less than 15 minutes.

Sorry to hear about your pup..if it was before 11pm it should be a bit cheaper..it depends on how late your Vet runs their evening surgery and how they divide the prices for the times. I would think you will be looking in the region of £70 - £85. I keep Arnica in the house all the time, it great for reducing swelling...my PRT bitch is a nightmare for staving her legs, she does everything at 100mph and is always coming back on three legs..a few doses of Arnica have sorted her out many a time. I also keep Metacam in the house, its a NSAID and given to the dose of the weight of the dog is pretty good for strains, sprains or any injury requiring antinflammatory action. Hope she is better soon and the bill isnt too painful for you.

Just got back from the vets, vet says that judging by how quick the swelling has gone down, and the fact that she seems to be walking well,it is almost certainly a strained tendon or muscle. No meds, but has said she must rest for the next week. The bill was £77,which doesn't seem to bad,but as always its £77 i hadn't planned on spending.Hey ho,feckin dogs eh?
