Ratting With Kranky And Herdwick

Recommended Posts

A return visit today to a place we did last week, had 30 odd last week from some rubbish filled stables and feed stores. What we lost went into a roof space and we went back today to tear down the plasterboard and finish them off.

I've never been locked in a small room with several big blokes, a load of terriers and a lurcher while the ceiling is torn down and a mixture of rats and insulation pours over you! It was certainly different! After a general melee the more experienced terriers were taken out to give the youngsters a chance. In the end it was just my lurcher bitch as the terriers, even the youngsters were beating her to every rat :icon_redface: Its not her game really but once the competition was removed she got the hang of it although she took a nasty bite which swelled up like nothing I've seen before!

We ended up with 34 and a head plus whatever youngsters got eaten in the process. The owners were very pleased and gave us a couple of bottles of scotch, lots of tea and pizza for lunch! The only downer of the day was that Water Badger wasn't with us, its his permission but due to a broken leg he has missed out on both trips.

My pictures are crap, hopefully kranky has some better ones.

I've got some on my camera which I'll post tomorrow. They're only shots of the dogs mooching about though. There was no way in the world that I was going to stand there taking action shots while the rats rained down on me!!! The one that leapt onto the peak of my cap certainly got my heart pumping.

I had to take my clothes off outside when I got home. There was insulation, rat droppings and nesting material all the way down, from my neck to my socks.

Good going  what breeding is the white dog in the last pic ?.

That's my young bitch. She's from no line in particular. Her sire wins a few shows and does well in the terrier racing. She's not done much but works above and below ground.
