air gun ant 1,666
went to check my chooks yesterday and there was 2 eggs in the nest, one was a normal bantem egg ( ive only got 3 silkie hens ) and the other was the size of a chocolate mini egg!!! could it be one of my hens having a weird day or has something snuck in and droped its load in the hope that the chooks would raise it as there own? i know woodpeckers do this but 1; i would think its to late in the year and 2; i wouldnt think a hen house would be their style? i have a pic if anybody would be kind enough to put it up for me? cheers ant

bobcullen79 1,495
Yeah, mis-fire mate. Nothing to worry about. Ive had quail fire out garden pea sized eggs. I think your getting mixed up with a cuckoo and a `pecker though, its cuckoo`s that lay in other nests. As far as I know, woodpeckers look after their own eggs. Saying that, did you see that mallard take in that pheasant egg on springwatch..
