Hey if anyone finds a whet stone at a car boot grab it !!

But make sure it's not an oil stone there 5 a penny and not worth the hassle !!!

Check it's in a good condition and that you will be able to "dress" it flat and smooth .

When there dished in the middle they aren't worth a wank !!

This is a pm I just sent in reply about this topic .

Iv pasted it here so others can see it .

Now my only credentials are that I'm

100% full time cutler and blade smith and have a good few years as a professional knife user under my belt .

I personally don't buy I to alot of the Industry hype on this topic .

Look back to a time where knives where tools and expensive ones at that , how was it done then and there ?

"Hi , micro mesh is something iv never used myself !

It's just another abrasive product as far as I'm aware !

Jap whetstones , buy the best you can afford is my advice !!

The combination stones with two grits will do you some real good .

Unless your looking for mirror Finnish 400-600 is plenty fines enough , simply because above that there homing and polishing not really removing any metal so it's esthetic from above that .

400-600 grit will get the metal very thin and moving to a butchers steel then a leather strop will hone the edge to a beautiful and very vet sharp cutting bevel .

Unless your maintaining a mirror finnished blades look, there's not a need for anything more on a working knife in my mine !!!

My fieldcrafters are not taken any higher than 240grit in terms if abrasives but all are steeled and stroped .

They are some of the sharpest knives iv held or created !!

I hope that helps ?

All the best , matt"
