Sfire 0
Ello everyone! Obviously I'm new to this site. I'm Sfire, from Michigan. I came across this site earlier when I was doing a search for people having Ferrets and such they are wanting to give away. I used to own Ferrets before. My first two I got, I was fairly young, early 20's I belive. I ended up having to move back in with my parents for a time. They absolutely refused to allow my Ferrets in the house. We had a shed out in the back yard that someone had built a cage on the outside side of the shed. Having no choice, since I refused to get rid of them, I had to keep them inside this cage. The weather was getting cold, so I took a large piece of wood, used hinges to cover the front of cage, to keep them out of the direct cold/wind. The breeder I purchased them from said they'd be fine in this cage with the wooden flap on it. One morning I had gone out to feed them, found my female Albino had died under the blanket I put in there for warmth (had straw in there too), so I had to bury her in the yard. After that my parents harped on me about being rid of the male Sable I had. Finally, I got tired of being harped on about him,and gave him along with the cage and supplies I had bought, to a friend of mine. Later in the years, I had gone to a Ferret Rescue (which was actually a woman's mobile home trailer) to get a Ferret. I was told the male was the only one she could part with at the time because the others were sick. Which, the sick ones she had running around inside a pen on the livingroom floor (they had some respiratory problem...there were no less then ten of them sick), meanwhile the one she was giving me, was running around everywhere else outside of this pen with the sick ones. I oaid $120 for him, which came with papers to prove he was up to date on his shots. I specifically asked the woman if he's ok running around so close to these sick ones. She had said he'd be perfectly fine. I had him for barely a week, noticing within the first 2 days his breathing sounded a bit funny or rather a bit off. I had called around to find a Vet who dealt with exotics, or with Ferrets in particular. I couldn't find any close by. By the time I found one, and got transportation out of town to take him there. He was really bad off. Vet gave me meds for him, but told me it may be too late for the Meds. He had been right. The ferret died within 2 days after his Vet visit. I of course reported the woman, who I later found out she was running an illegal Rescue Shelter and that she hadn't had no liscences or anything. Anyhow, that had been years ago. I am now in a place where I am allowed animals, and would absolutely love another Ferret. Of course I need to get cage etc...for it first...unless I find one someone is giving away with the Ferret. I'm hoping this site can help wth locating one. Thanks in advance, Sfire
