In real terms Mik, there are probably rooks crows and jackdaws there. It would be highly unusual to simply have rooks and jackdaws coming in. I'm sure you will concede that it's impossible to identify each of those birds apart from the smaller jackdaws.

Wrong. Rooks are members of the crow family. So a morning shooting crows could involve any member of that family - carrion crows, rooks, jackdaws.
