shovel leaner 7,650 Posted July 16, 2013 Report Share Posted July 16, 2013 I recommend hazel , you can cut them now , but its better when the sap stops . They are best about half an inch or so wide . I always made mine the length of my arm , from my armpit to the tips of my fingers . once cut sharpen one end and leave them to dry out for a few weeks but be careful they dont warp .
