Duck Pond Feeder Ideas

Hi lads, as it reads im looking for ideas for feeders for feeding barley and broozed barley on 8 flight ponds got plenty of blue barrels about any advice. Also advice on feeding potatoes at the edges or in buckets or what ?

Ive got a spinner ordered should be here tomorrow. Would this work for wild ducks we dug out a new splash in the marsh this spring with the digger it goes from 4 or 5 inches at the sides to about 16 inches in the middle with an island in the middle ??

What we use. . . . that we find really successful. . . . is lengths of drain pipe, angled into the water, with one end sitting just above the water line. The pipe has a spring / spiral (like the pheasant hoppers) in the end by the water, and we fill them up with wheat. . . . and they tap them quite happily and the wheat falls into the water (in the shallows). Works well and seems to reduce waste.

For wild ducks, you cant beat hand feeding. As you don't want to ever over feed the ducks or they can be a bit late coming in! With hoppers and self feeders, they don't get the urgency required for good dusk flighting, as they could easily feed at any time. You should count them in from a hiding place regularly, and feed accordingly to the numbers. An auto feeder can work well, if managed properly. Feed in the shallows in the morning, or set the feeder away in the mornings, this also puts any lazy ducks off the pond, and gets them into a proper dusk flight routine for good shooting, never feed the banks, or rats/rooks/pigeons will soon catch on, always into 6 - 12 inches of water.
