Tullylish Dog Show And Race Day Last Sunday 7Th July 13

Recommended Posts

Tullylish sits on the River Bann, along the main road between the towns of Gilford and Banbridge. Its beautiful countryside and green elevated hills was the perfect setting for the Tullylish Dog Show last Sunday 7th July 13. We were blessed with the weather for a change. The Gods were definately looking down on us. The sun shone brilliantly as the Canine men, women and their little folk arrived in force with their prized Canine crew in tow. From my own observation, over the past couple of years our doggie shows have become real family days out. This was very evident on Sunday by the turnout on the day. There was just a lovely atmosphere. As I gazed around the field, for a moment I thought I was on the Rivera with Parasols , Gazebos ,summer chairs, salads, flasks, sandwiches , Barbecue, and a few beverages, all brought along for the makings of a fun filled family day out. This was all happening at Tullylish last Sunday.

As this show has not been on for the last 3 years, it was nice to see so many of the old faces still on the scene, and also quite a few new up and coming sportsmen and women coming to the forefront of the sporting scene. On my travels around the show, and chatting to several people along the way, I bumped into Albertj Titterington , Director of the Great Game Fairs of Ireland , out for an afternoon of leisure, and the odd chin whack with the good folk of the Canine community, and Tullylish Dog Show.

The coursing started at approx 12.00 noon, followed by the showing and finally the straight racing. Here are some Results I picked up along the way. It was impossible to get them all as I was showing our dogs as well.

And finally the day would not be complete without thanking the Judges on the day.

Lurchers / Sean Mc Geown, Terriers/ Justin Hill/ Whippets Robert Milligan/ Strong Dog Judge, whos name I did not get/ Overall Judges Sean Mc Cusker and Tom Barry for a difficult job, but well done. Our resident photographer "Bluebell" Deidre Mc Coy was there taking photographs. Many thanks for that Bluebell. Deidre will be putting up the usual photographs of our moments of glory shortly on Hunting Life. and Facebook.

And as the saying goes, I always leave the best to last. Yes John Barry and your team of helpers, you are simply the best. You run your show with impeccable organisation , and all events went without a hitch. After 3 years out, you still have not lost the knack of running a most enjoyable dog show. Many thanks John, for your kindness to me, and I am already looking forward to next years show.

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
