Advice On Painting Air Rifles Etc

Been offered a hk97k for my lad stock is worn as in varnish has come away etc but wood is in good condition,but the barrel has lost its black finish and is dull and matt like as is some of the other metal bits on the rifle.Here is the problem i have would like to make it nice for the lad as was a friends rifle he had it years so what to do do i paint it do i rub it back a bit gentle like and oil it etc any help would be great will get some pics up asap if that helps.....Thanks in advance Jack

Get a blueing kit. Just bought one for around £18 posted. The rust and blueing remover works well, you just see the old stuff disappear, back to bare metal. The hard bit it putting it back on. MInes a bit rough looking at the moment. I`ll get round to doing it again...

Give it a really good sand down,making sure all the varnish is off.If you dont get all the varnish off then it will be patchy where the oil cant penetrate the wood.Then i would give it two or three coats of tru oil,leaving 48hrs between each application.After the last coat is applied give it a good buff up to a finish!.

The bluing can be removed with T Cut and a gentle rub with a green pad. :D
