Dessie Mackins Show Last Saturday 4Th May 13

Recommended Posts

Had a very relaxing day at Dessie Mackins 2nd Dog Show of the year which took place on Saturday 4th May 13 at Gilford, Co Down.. Although the crowd could of been bigger, the craic and the banter was good with like minded people, all there with their families and friends. . The weather was kind for a change, and brought the Canine world and their young folk out for a day of fun and frolics at Dessies Dog Show and Raceday.

The show started at 12.15 noon, with the Racing first on the list. Dessie called the heats out in succession, no time delay, and all went completely without a hitch. This was quickly followed by the showing, starting to time with the childrens handling class. These little people never cease to amaze me. They all go into that show ring, and walk their dogs, and ask for nothing in return. You could see the pride of their parents, as their little treasures walked around the show ring with their beloved Canine friends. Congratulations to all. Some sleepy heads Saturday night.

There were some great highlights of the day.

A Big congratulations to Davy best on winning Champion Whippet at Dessie Mackins show on Saturday. Davy went home with an armful of Trophys, I will never forget the smile on wife Valeries Face. She has fell in love all over again with Davy, and has told him he can have as many ferretts as he likes down the bottom of the garden.
And reserve went to the Mighty Quinn, Mickey Quinn from Lurgan. Mickey and Michael, I am told had to get Securicor to take their trophys home, both for showing and racing, they had so many . Mickeys wife Paula nearly had aheart attack when she saw securicor pulling up outside the gate. She thought it was the police coming to take her away. Well done Mickey and Michael. Two great sportsmen. Its people like you two we need in the doggie world.
Janet Duke has not stopped smiling since Dessies Show. Her beautiful Parson Jack Russell George (Georgeous George )won the champion Terrier at Dessies Show. Janet went home one very happy lady, and opened part of Georges winnings, a big bottle of Merlot, and a couple more along with it, and a good night was had by all. A Big congratulations Janet, and well done George is a real winner.
Champion Puppy went to Graham Fyffe, what a great win Graham. It was nice to see the trophy going to Belfast and a lovely family. Again Graham was so proud of his winnigs, and so pleased with his Champion Pup Congratulations Graham and well done, and may you win many more.
Little Jodie Moore was the apple of her dads eye Stewarti Moore, when she won the Strong Dog Champion with her winning dog. What a win and what a lovely wee girl. Jodie will be one of our sportswomen of the future, long after we old folk have gone, and will continue to make her dad Stewartie and Mum proud of her. Congratulations Jodie and well done.

Cheers for Jason Lavery who won the Champion Lurcher, and Best in Show, with his beautiful lurcher Rusty. Saturday was my first time to meet Jason and his mates, and it was very evident by the smile on Jasons face how happy he was with his winnings. Jason got a rising applause from his mates, and all the Canine people around the ring. who were also happy at his big win. Congratulations Jason, and may you go on to win many more.

*A Big Congratulations to Jason and to all the worthy winners listed above. Hope I have left nobody out.

And finally, may I take this opportunity to thank the judges for a hard days work. This was made even more difficult for them, when the Whippet judge did not turn up, and the Lurcher judge had to judge both breeds. Also to Graham Fyffe who operated the lure at the last minute, and Terri Mc Vitty who assisted Graham and Dessie on the starting line. A job well done Graham and Terri with such short notice. Many thanks to all . Janet Duke was the designated photographer on the day, and dident she do a great job. Look forward Janet to seeing the photographs up shortly.

Dessie, many thanks for a lovely day out, and for all the hard work you put into organising your shows. Hope to meet up with you again shortly at upcoming shows. Really enjoyed the day.

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
