Weihrauch Hw98...

Recommended Posts

Had my eyes on the Weihrauch HW98 for awhile now, had a read through mixed but mostly positive reviews on a few web sites and now I am fairly committed to treat myself to one, not sure on a scope though so any suggestions would be apriciated. Wouldn't say I was a hardcore hunter but I just like to get out there and bag a few for the pot, also I am new to air guns:-) so I don't think a PCP is the way forward for me. Where I am based there's a fair amount of rabbits and theres a few birds that need taken care of as well. I was in initially thinking of going down the .22 route but I think I am going to go down the .177 route instead due to accuracy and range based on reviews. Anyways ways, does anyone have any opinions on the rifle, suggestion on optics or recommendation in calliber before I turn over my hard earned money? Cheers Frenchie

with a .22 you just need to be better at rangefinding thats all.

there exactly the same accuracy as a .177, just a more loopy trajectory.

in general .22 springers are smoother to cock and recoil slightly less when fired. than that of a .177 springer

and imo .22 is better for hunting as the pellets hit harder and deliver more kinetic energy to the target, leaving less chance of a wounding and more chance of a clean kill.

practice makes perfect and as soon as you know your distances and your aimpoints you will be sorted.

hope this helps, i dont personally know much about the 98 apart from its a 95 action in a target stock with a different barrel

i have a 95k and it certainly has never let me down and is a pleasure to shoot.

cant go far wrong with a hw ;)

cheers, SKoT

i've had a go on a couple of 98's. the untuned one was a lovely rifle to shoot, very accurate. the tuned ones a different animal altogether, silky smooth, minimal recoil and accurate as hell.

both were definitely worth a look at, and reckoned by some to be the hidden jewel in weihrauchs crown, very underrated rifles indeed.

cheers, wurz

my mate had one in 177 and i borrowed it on a few occasions, absolutley lovely to shoot/quite heavy but once in your shoulder it wasnt.the only thing that was a slight issue was the noise as it had a fair crack to it and i think a silencer might unbalance it a little.but overall a real nice bit of kit.
