fieldsportsman 107
Is there anything that defines a Thai bird, as they all come in different sizes etc, are they like Brazilian where it's just one that comes direct from that country
blackdug 90
I keep thai birds and I spend a lot of time over there as well and in my opinion there is nothing that defines a true thai bird these days ....the birds i keep fling differant style of chicks in each hatch ...I first went 25 years ago and the stock standard bird in Thailand was a big mostly black Malay x shamo style bird but since then the birds come in all shape and sizes and have definetly been getting more lean over the years ,,,,I have some pictures coming back next week when my wife comes back from Thailand and I can show you some of the birds my father in law has been keeping lately ....it,s not just thai birds most game birds I see in the uk are not what they seem or have x blood in them ....it,s like the lurcher game most of it is bullish!t.....

Shamo 319
Some of the Thai strains now have a fair amount of non Asian blood in them, probably mostly established Yank strains like 'Roundhead', 'Hatch' and the really popular 'Sweater' families. To 'add' what they can to the mix. I had a number of Birds hatched from Eggs from Thailand, brought back by ED, many Moons ago. They are bigger than the ones I have seen becoming popular over more recent years. The Thais have always been smaller framed and leaner than uncrossed Shamo and Paki Aseels though. What you have to remember is that the Thai is mainly fought in 'Heels' in their native Country and are required to be faster and show a style more commonly associated with the smaller Steel Birds of the Phillipines, Guam and Mexico. As has been said it is hard to know what is crossed up and what is not, especially with the ability to transport Eggs around the World so easily. Size, stance and type is usually a result of the favoured style of combat in that Country. What would be the point of putting 3" Gaffs on a 4lb Spanish Cock.......excuse the pun. As with everything to do with 'performance' Animals, source them from selected people and then do some more homework, before parting with your cash.
