whippet 99 2,613 Posted April 5, 2013 Report Share Posted April 5, 2013 got whippet here that caught its skin underneath its groin by its penis ,..............it looks worst than what it is ,.because where the skin is loose you can see right back to the flesh so it looks like a hole ,........anyway i cleanead out with saline ,.sprayed antiseptic spray in wound....and stapled it back together ...........i done this literall when i got home .........course antibiotics to follow thought it was healing but slowly see the staples getting loose and couldnt see the hole ,..........well took staples out two weeks later as they were pulling through the skin ........so know i got a hole not as big as it was but in need of a few stitches ,.........but the ends of the skin obviously gone hard ........so trying to get hold of the hunt vet ........... what do you think he will do,............my guess is he will knock dog out and cut the end of the skin and stitch back together ........ you got loose skin one side and then the other side the wound is that the skin is more to the flesh .......if i had known i wouldnt of done it my self ,......its a lesson learned ...........where staples will not work in that area,........just to add the dog has been confined too restrict movement and is well in its self eating and drinking.............any help appreciated........ im ringing vet up ,.......he hasnt long come out of hospital and is half the price of normal vets........just hope he is upto it and feeling better......cheers Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Ask the vet for advice on what to do in future if this happens and in other situations where punture wounds are concerned, a decent vet will tell you what to do, a money hungry one will tell you that under every circumstance to come see them. Glad to hear the dog is back to normal in all other aspects, hope the dog makes a good recovery, and also the vet . Keep us posted on what happens. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

In that area too, the amount of movement, and pressure from legs when the dog is walking/moving/laying down mean the staples can move about more, and get loose. Superglue, or a combination of superglue and steristrips works well. yes, if it needs stitching, they'll need to cut the dead edges off first. if it doesn't look infected, then the other option is to let it heal on it's own - especially if it has been open / semi-open for a while.
