ferret15 0 Posted July 24, 2007 Report Share Posted July 24, 2007 all my dogs were motion sick the first few times i recommend doing lots of short journeys with it just a couple of minute's make sure you do this every day until the dogs used to it don't do it on a full stomach and try to make it a positive thing for the dog maybe drive to a near by field play with the dog and drive back the more you put the dog in the car the better it will get Quote Link to post
Guest Bunny Basher Posted July 24, 2007 Report Share Posted July 24, 2007 ACP's from the vets,little yellow tablets,they are for travel sickness but it dopes them for a period of time,not to clever if your going running a dog but it may get him out of the habit of being sick,they are cheap so you could maybe use them over a few weeks to stop him being sick and hopefully he'll be used to the car after that.Goodluck Quote Link to post
ferret15 0 Posted July 24, 2007 Report Share Posted July 24, 2007 (edited) ACP is a dog and cat sedative i would only use this as a last resort (all medicine has an effect on the organs) if your using it every time you travel think what its doing to your dogs insides IMO it is better to cure the problem with a little time and patience. ACP are strong little things i know people who use them to take the edge of difficult horses !!! i think the medicines we have available now are amazing but that some times we can be to quick to use them in search of a quick fix I'm not saying you shouldn't use them each to there own. this is just a word of warning edited to say if the sickness is relay bad peppermint will help settle the stomach give the dog a couple of mints (must be peppermint not spearmint) before you travel Edited July 24, 2007 by ferret15 Quote Link to post
Guest reload Posted July 24, 2007 Report Share Posted July 24, 2007 Take the short trips advice mate, maybe even go as far as feeding the dog in the car, with the engine running. Its all about buiding confidence in the dog. Theres two types of travel sickness one is motion sickness one is anxiety based, both problems can be helped with sensible steps and there are natural medicines that will help aswell. Ginger based for motion sickness and valerian and scullcap for anxiety based. Take it slow and it will generally come good, dont feed before travelling... good luck Quote Link to post
