esoxluscious 44
alright lads, i have this staffy bitch me and the girlfriend bought after are first one died, neither where bought for hunting just a fishing and walking buddy, but i have since got into more fieldsports rather than just fishing. Now this bitch i have now has terrible toes, she has a real bad one that was operated on once and any time shes off the lead charging about it ends up sore, now i know the solution is to have it choppped of but where.....the nail its self or the whole toe? one or two others seem to be bothering her now aswell is there any way to toughen them up at all? shes a funny looking thing too, kind of staffy but right and thin she came from a 'reputable breeder' across the water, is this bad breeding or just unfortunate? I have only three years of experience with dogs (two staffs) the first one was a wee cracker and came from a back yard peddler, amazing dog even with my very limited experience and training knowledge at the time, now i have this whiney, funny looking thing, that wont even chase a ball never mind retrieve it! the ultimate 'pot licker' ! sandymere 8,263
Staffs are pretty much pot lickers these days, most are bred and sold as pets and thats what you get. If you want a working dog then get a breed/type based on what sport you intend to do. Edited February 28, 2013 by sandymere

esoxluscious 44
yeah that was kind of my next question, where do i go from here...... get another staff, or go down the russel or german pointer, both have there strenghts and weakness? What do you want the dog to do? be loyal, trainable, alert me to strangers in the back yard but be quiet, flush, point and swim yet be content to sit by my side for a few hours when fishing. collie x not really for me mate, thanks for the input though

Gaz_1989 9,539
If you like the bull breed then maybe look towards half cross bull/greyhound? They are versatile dogs, could do all that you have asked and can run aswell. Very loyal dogs aswell.
