Scrubbing Up A Shotgun,

Recommended Posts

Hi guys and gals,

Quick question. What's the best way or cleaning up the chamber on your shotgun, both inside and out. It's a bit crappy on the inside, feels a bit rough when running the finger tips over it. And on the outside you can see slight signs of rust in the right light, am I correct in thinking a very fine wire wool would clean this?

Please any advice would be appreciated.

Regards,

Rikki

Wire wool will be ok but take care to remove any loose fibres that will shed. It will also remove the blueing on the outside, so reblue and well oil.

Scotchbrite works just as well and is a little less abrasive than wire wool. With it being plastic any fibres you miss on the inside will burn off.

Use a long stick , split down down the centre 2" , it must fit thru the barrel complete end to end..attach a 4-6" strip of fine emery cloth in the split, wrap it around the stick . Dip the emery cloth in oil & attach the opposite end in a chordless drill.

Pop the barrels in a vice carefully,(not to crush/mark.. then pop your emery cloth dipped in oil in the barrel & spin the drill ,moveing it from one end to the other, in & out ( honeing) steady away in & out .....within minutes your bore will be mint.

pull a clean cloth thru after, until your blinded !!
